“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Contemporary Art” is ACENTRICSPACE’s ongoing art workshop program. Based on the idea of liberal and borderless practice proposed by ACENTRICSPACE, The workshop program is committed to sharing diverse and original artistic practices and aesthetic ideas at home and abroad. Develop experimental and diverse art workshops in terms of mediums and subjects, so that members of the community can be more immersed in experiencing the endless imagination and possibilities within art. The workshop strives to connect international artists and local artist communities in Shanghai, stimulate the collision of inspiration, and produce more unprecedented practices that facilitate the public’s participation in art. This inspires and nurtures the everyday aesthetics of the community.

Two key components including Art Theory and Practice Workshop

As the core concept output part of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Contemporary Art” artist workshop program, it is different from the traditional art history and theoretical chronicle-like teaching case and uses the method of conveying an original cognitive system to quickly lead participants to comprehend the underlying logic of contemporary cutting-edge experimental art creation in a relaxed conversation. This is Ariadne’s ball of thread, which will guide curious and eager visitors who are still wandering in the maze of modern and contemporary art, straight into the core behind the abstract and mysterious avant-garde phenomenon.
2018年于伦敦发起公共介入艺术实验小组-Studio Lostpropertise/失物招领,主要在跨个体性公共介入与地缘文化异同的方向进行艺术实践与创作,小组创作曾多次被国际、地方媒体报道及奖项提名;
Independent creator. Graduated from Central Saint Martins (MA) and University of Leeds (BA).
In recent years, he has been creating in three fields in parallel:
His creation can be regarded as a progress of self-observation, in which he constantly questions the shifting subjectivity of existence, by which he tries to make a universal anchor that helps voyagers don’t get lost when they are roaming in the drifting societies that are mostly increasingly constructed by simulacra and spectacle; (by using the combined medias such as art installation, writing, painting, and experimental moving images)
In 2018, he launched a public intervention art experimental group – Studio Lostpropertise. It mainly conducts cross-individual artistic practices which allows public participation. The group’s creations have been reported by international and local media many times, and nominated for awards;
In 2021, he co-founded Zhujiajiao’s local art and culture community – Bujism, trying to build up an, in a way, an observational lab that frames a specific time and space, by which to study and analysis the significance of art intermediary in social and daily intervention.

Alongside the mind-expanding Art Theory program, the Practice Workshop emphasizes the first-hand experience of the development of modern and contemporary avant-garde art forms and the joy of hands-on practice. In the practice session, ACENTRICSPACE invited many artists and practitioners with top art education backgrounds at home and abroad. They will provide the participants in the workshop with their most original creative methods and are committed to allowing everyone to experience the complete creative process of each lead artist in a participatory manner in the shortest possible time.
Contemporary Moving Image Workshop

In the short-term workshop, the artist will share his experimental creation in the direction of moving image/ video works. Other artists who are active in the field of contemporary experimental video creation will be also introduced, and their unique creative methods will be analyzed in detail. According to each participant’s current inspiration, the artist will assist them in obtaining the experience of creating avant-garde experimental moving image artwork alone by using the simplest creative materials.
In the long-term workshop, artists will start from the stage of shaping the narrative conception to help experiencers build their story structure and finally produce their unique video language to express their ideas.

Contemporary Mixed Medium Workshop
In the artist’s current practice, he re-examines the social symbols in his growth memory that have had a crucial impact on his “individual shaping”, and thus integrates the exploration of mixed mediums and painting with the body memory of looking up at climbing as a child. The artist hopes to explore “children’s painting” as a form of expression, no longer shape or reflect aesthetics, just like its original intention, and let individual and collective symbols dissolve in the image. In the workshop, participants will explore the possibility of composite materials in contemporary art painting, from expressive form to conceptual assistance, and even the potential of leading the artwork, and re-examine the relationship between materials and painting.
